subjects Jack Stack writes about Corporate Culture, Trends and Future
Jack Stack's profile President and CEO of the Springfield Remanufacturing Corporation (SRC), a rebuilder of engines and engine components, located in Springfield, Missouri. As detailed in his best-selling book, The Great Game of Business, Stack began his career as a mailboy at International Harvester's Melrose Park, Illinois, plant. After ten years of consistent promotions, Stack became plant manager of Harvester's remanufacturing plant in Springfield. When Harvester fell on hard times and began selling off assets, Stack and twelve other managers and supervisors bought the Springfield facility in an attempt to save it from bankruptcy. The newly-formed SRC grew from 119 employees in 1983 to more than 650 employees in 1991, and during the same period of time, annual sales grew from $16 million to almost $70 million. An 18,200% increase in the company's stock (10¢ per share at the time of the buyout and $18.30 per share on January 1, 1992) left many of the hourly employees wealthy. Stack received the 1993 Business Enterprise Trust Award.
