Blake received his B. A. degree in psychology from Berea College (1940), his M.A. degree in psychology from the University of Virginia (1941), and his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin (1947), where he continued as a professor until 1964. He received an Honorary LL.D. in 1992. He has lectured at Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge universities, and has worked on special extended assignments at the Tavistock Clinic, London, as a Fulbright Scholar. His Korzybski Memorial Address presentations were in 1961 and in 1982. He was elected to the Human Resources Hall of Fame in 1982 and chosen as a Management Laureate author in 1992. His writings were selected for inclusion in Great Writers on Organizations, 1992, (Pugh, D.S. and Hickson, D.J.). Dr. Blake is a diplomat in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. Drs. Blake and Mouton developed a worldwide network of consultants, co-authored over 40 books and hundreds of articles, and consulted for governments, industries, and universities in 40 countries. Their breakthrough text, The Managerial Grid, is currently in its fifth edition, has sold in excess of two million copies, and is available in 20 languages. Dr. Mouton died in 1988 and Dr. Blake retired in 1998, selling the company to long-time associate Bruce Carlson in Vancouver, B.C. in 1997 |
