Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management at the Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Michigan.
As director of the University's Global Leadership Program, Tichy oversees a 36-company consortium of Japanese, European and North American companies who are partnered to develop senior executives and conduct actioin research on globalization.
He also directs the Global Business Partnership which links global companies and research centers in North America, Japan, and Europe.
He is the founder and editor-in-chief of the Human Resource Management Journal.
Formerly Dr. Tichy was Manager of Management Education for General Electric where he directed its worldwide development efforts at Crotonville between 1985 and 1987. Prior to joining the Michigan Faculty he served for nine years on the Columbia University Business School Faculty.
Professor Tichy is the author of numerous books, including Control Your Destiny or Someone Else Will (with Stratford Sherman; HarperBusiness; 1994). He is also the author of Globalizing Management (with Vladimir Pucik and Carole K. Barnett), The Transformational Leader (with Mary Anne Devanna), Strategic Human Resource Management (with Charles J. Fombun and Mary Anne Devanna), Strategic Change Management and Organization Design for Primary Health Care.
He has served on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Review, Organizational Dynamics, Journal of Business Research, and Journal of Business Strategy. He served as chairman of the Academy of Management's Organization and Management Theory Division and is a member of the Board of Governors of the American Society for Training and Development.
He received the 1993 Best Practice Award from the American Society for Training and Development and the 1994 Sales and Marketing Executives International Educator of the Year Award.
Tichy consults widely in both the business and private sectors. He is a senior partner in Action Learning Associaates. His clients have included: Ameritech, AT&T, Mercedes-Benz, BellSouth, CIBA-GEIGY, Chase Manhattan Bank, Citibank, Exxon, General Electric, General Motors, Honeywell, Hitachi, Imperial Chemical Inc., IBM, NEC, Northern Telecom, Nomura Securities and 3M. |
