A consultant who delivers powerful insight and pragmatic advice on brand management issues. Karl is most noted for his ability to take the mystique out of brand management and make it practical for organizations to implement. If variety is the spice of life, Karl is a well-seasoned marketing practitioner. His range of client assignments — everything from marketing asphalt highways to women's lingerie provides him with a wide range of experiences to call upon and share with his audiences.
At the foundation of his experience and knowledge are his activities connected with Beyond Marketing Thought, the company he founded in 1984. Karl wanted to create a different kind of brand management consulting company — a firm that provides powerful approaches in a pragmatic framework. Under Karl's direction, Beyond Marketing Thought has broadened its consulting practice to include a flourishing training and research business.
Karl has implemented his contemporary approach to brand management with a wide range of corporate clients, such as Allina Health System, UnitedHealthCare, Honeywell, Cargill, Marshall Fields, American Airlines, Federal Express, ING, US West, IBM, US Bancorp, Pillsbury Company, AT&T, Motorola, Skandia, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Scotts Company, Stanley Tool Works, The Wall Street Journal, 3M, Sony, Target Stores, Patterson Dental, Cabela's, The Toro Company, ThedaCare, Medtronic, DuPont and Walgreens.
As an accomplished presenter, Karl speaks to many different types of audiences around the world. His energetic style and wide reaching knowledge of brand management make him a favorite speaker with corporate audiences of marketing, sales, and executive teams.
Karl has recently co-authored a book titled Be Your Own Brand, which has been translated into eight languages. This new book introduces the notion of personal branding to demonstrate how “successful” people have learned to consistently act out their personal values to make a difference in relationships throughout their lives. This book provides practical advice and how-to’s for individuals to be more successful by being “more of who they are, not less.” Karl is currently writing a book titled Executive Guide to Brand Management.
Karl holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota. He got his “real world” experience in numerous marketing and sales positions with Cargill, Schlitz Brewing Company, CPC International and Control Data.
Karl is the former chair of the board of directors of the Design Management Institute and currently serves on the board of VocalEssence. |
